PC Hardware Enthusiasts: Custom Build Compatibility Review
Job description
What We're Researching
We're running a paid study on PC hardware compatibility and system configuration choices. Understanding how experienced builders spot component mismatches helps improve automated compatibility checkers and build guides. We are evaluating real-world component lists to see how human experts handle edge cases like clearance issues, power constraints, and motherboard chipset limitations.
How It Works
You will be provided with several custom PC build component lists to evaluate during an online session. For each build, you will check the parts for physical and technical compatibility, noting any potential bottlenecks or missing requirements. You will then explain your reasoning and suggest alternative components if necessary. The session will involve screen-sharing as you navigate technical specifications and document your findings.
Who This Is For
We are looking for PC hardware enthusiasts, system integrators, and IT technicians who have hands-on experience building custom computers. You should be highly familiar with current CPU sockets, motherboard form factors, RAM clearances, and GPU power requirements. We welcome hobbyist builders, professional system integrators, computer repair technicians, and hardware reviewers.
Responsibilities
- Review provided lists of PC components for technical and physical compatibility.
- Identify potential performance bottlenecks, power supply constraints, or thermal issues.
- Suggest alternative parts to resolve any identified mismatches or conflicts.
- Explain your evaluation process and reasoning for each build configuration.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building custom desktop PCs from individual components.
- Deep familiarity with current and recent hardware generations from major manufacturers.
- Comfortable reading and interpreting technical specifications for motherboards, CPUs, and cases.
- Ability to clearly articulate technical reasoning during a recorded session.
