Terac is real and it does pay, we have the withdrawal to prove it. It is an expert marketplace that pays professionals for paid research studies, interviews, and AI evaluation work, with studies on our own dashboard listing anywhere from $100 to $350 for a single session. The honest catch is that a listed price is not income until you pass screening, and most applications on the account we reviewed were screened out, for a verified total of $20 across 6 studies. Terac is also geo-gated, though that has just loosened: Kenya was blocked as recently as July 2026, and in September our own Nairobi account verified and was paid to M-Pesa. This review covers what it actually pays, whether it is legit, where it works, and who it suits.
The dashboards below come from two real Terac accounts. The July 2026 board, study history and first withdrawal are from a contributor account shared with us, as is the country-restriction notice. The September 2026 screenshots, showing a verified Kenyan account and a completed M-Pesa payout, are from our own account in Nairobi. We also asked Terac Support directly about country eligibility, and cross-checked the numbers against Terac's own published panel and payout pages.

Inside a Real Terac Account
Most Terac articles are written from the marketing site. Here is the platform from the inside. The opportunity board is the best part: real studies, real prices, and a visible count of how many spots are left.
Terac splits work into one-time studies (a fixed fee for a single session) and project-based engagements (paid hourly). The project-based tab is thinner but pays by the hour.
Now the reality check. Those prices are what a study pays if you get in. The history on the account we reviewed tells the other half of the story: five engagements sitting at 0 of 4 tasks "Under review", and a run of studies marked Screened out. Six studies in, the total was $20.
The money is real, though. That account's earnings page shows $20.00 earned and $20.00 withdrawn, cashed out through Virtual Incentives, the redemption provider Terac used at the time. Terac has since replaced that flow, which we come back to below.
Getting onto a study is not a one-click affair. Each engagement runs its own multi-step gauntlet: connect accounts, basic info, two rounds of screening, a Research Fellow Contractor Agreement, project guidelines, then onboarding into Slack where the work actually happens.
Is Terac Legit, or a Scam?
Terac is legit. The evidence, strongest first:
- We were paid and withdrew the money, twice. $20 cashed out in July 2026, then $16.80 paid to M-Pesa in September 2026, completed the same day. Small sums, but it is the difference between a real platform and a scam.
- It is a real company with named people and named clients. Terac was founded by Zachary Baker and Jack Blair, and it publicly names research customers including Maze, Listen Labs, and Tegus, alongside human-data companies and AI labs.
- It verifies you properly. Onboarding requires your legal name, phone verification, connected profiles, and government ID. Studies add a signed contractor agreement. Scam operations do not build that.
- Public reviews are positive. Terac holds 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot, though on a small base of just 23 reviews.
- It never charges you to join. Money flows to you, never from you.
The fair criticisms are about maturity, not honesty. Terac is an early-stage startup with no disclosed funding on Tracxn or Crunchbase, its review base is thin, and the day-to-day experience is dominated by screening. If you are searching whether Terac is a scam because you got screened out of three studies in a row, that is the platform working as designed, not fraud.
Set expectations before you start
Getting accepted to the platform is not the same as getting paid. Every study screens separately, and most people will not match most studies. Treat Terac as occasional, opportunistic income, not a schedule you can plan around.
What Terac Actually Pays
Terac does not publish a rate card, so here are the real numbers from our own board, split from what we actually banked.
| Opportunity type | Pay | Example |
|---|---|---|
| One-time interview or study | $100 to $350 | 60-min legal workflow interview, $350 |
| Multi-part study | $200 + $250 | 5-day diary study plus a 75-min interview |
| Project-based (hourly) | $80 to $100/hr | Mechanical engineering study, $100/hr |
| Referral | $1,000 | Shown on every opportunity card |
| What was actually earned | $20 total | 6 studies, most screened out |
That last row is the one to internalise. The board looks lucrative, and for the people who match a study it genuinely is, a single $350 interview beats a week on most microtask sites. But the gap between listed prices and realised earnings is screening, and it is wide.
The payout system changed between our two tests, and the current one is better. In July 2026 cashing out meant waiting on an emailed redemption link from Virtual Incentives. By September 2026 Terac had a proper payout rail: a balance page with a Withdraw button, a named payout method, a withdrawal ID and a status timeline you can follow. The minimum is now $12.50 rather than the $10 it used to be, the maximum is $2,000 per transaction, and identity verification must be complete first. The method list only appears once you start a withdrawal, so it is hard to document in full; we can confirm M-Pesa first-hand, and PayPal has been available throughout. Which Countries Does Terac Support?
This is the question that decides whether Terac is worth your time at all, and it is poorly documented, so we asked Terac Support directly. Their answer:
"Terac operates in over 100 countries worldwide. If you were able to sign up and verify your identity, your country is supported for interviews. If you see a message saying your country is not supported, participation and payouts are not available there. Some opportunities may have specific country restrictions, so eligibility can vary by opportunity."
So the practical test is simple: if you can sign up and clear ID verification, you are supported for interviews. If you hit the region notice instead, neither participation nor payouts are available where you are. And even inside a supported country, individual studies can add their own restrictions.
That test used to fail for Kenya. Here is the notice a Kenyan user hit in July 2026, shared with us at the time.
Update, September 2026: Kenya now works
That has changed, and it is worth documenting because Terac never announced it. Its public changelog still stops at the April and May 2026 payout updates. In September 2026 we created an account from Nairobi and it cleared every gate the July notice used to block: a Kenyan mobile number verified by SMS, government ID verified, and the account marked as an Expert with payouts enabled.
Then it paid. We withdrew $16.80 to M-Pesa on 3 September 2026. It was requested at 12:37 PM, passed review and moved into transit within the same minute, and completed at 2:43 PM the same afternoon, roughly two hours end to end. The fee was $0.17, inclusive, so $16.63 landed.
Two things follow from that. Mobile money is now a real payout rail, which matters far more across East Africa than PayPal does. And the minimum moved: the cash-out floor is $12.50, not the $10 this review previously reported. Terac still publishes no country list, so the sign-up test remains the only reliable check, but a country being blocked once clearly does not mean it stays blocked.
Terac's own published numbers put the coverage in perspective. Its expert network lists 81,498 verified experts across 108 countries, but the distribution is lopsided: North America 55.8 percent, Asia-Pacific 24.6 percent, Europe 11.0 percent, Latin America 5.8 percent, Africa just 2.0 percent, and the Middle East 0.4 percent. The United States alone accounts for over 17,000 experts, followed by India, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Indonesia. On payouts, Terac says it covers 90 or more countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East. If you are in Africa, coverage is thinner than the headline number suggests, but as Kenya shows, the map is still being redrawn.
How Terac Works
- Sign up and onboard. Legal name, phone verification by SMS, connected professional profiles, and government ID verification. Your interview language is set here too.
- Browse the board. Opportunities are split into one-time and project-based, each showing the fee, the spots remaining, and a referral bonus.
- Apply and pass screening. Every study asks its own screening questions about your field and experience. This is where most applications end.
- Sign the agreement and onboard to the project. Longer engagements add a Research Fellow Contractor Agreement, project guidelines, and a Slack workspace.
- Do the work and cash out. Approved earnings hit your balance; from $12.50 you can withdraw to your chosen method, including mobile money such as M-Pesa.
Who Terac Is For
Terac pays for specific professional experience, not general availability. The studies we saw wanted practising lawyers, CAD and mechanical engineers, insurance adjusters, accountants using particular software, IT service managers, marketers running automation platforms, and PhD-level STEM researchers. Terac's own network skews senior, with about 35.6 percent holding graduate or professional degrees.
If your working life gives you a specific, describable expertise, Terac is worth a profile. If you are looking for entry-level work you can start today with no credentials, this is the wrong door, and our guide to survey sites that actually pay is a better starting point.
Terac vs the Alternatives
| Platform | Best for | Pay | Payment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terac | Paid research studies and interviews | $100 to $350 per study; $80 to $100/hr | Cash out from $12.50, M-Pesa, PayPal and more |
| SME Careers | Credentialed experts, ongoing projects | $15/hr entry, listed up to $100/hr | Weekly, Deel |
| Mercor | Engineers and AI specialists | $16 to $200+/hr | Weekly, Stripe or Wise |
| Handshake AI | US students, grads, domain experts | $17 to $125/hr | Deel |
Terac is the odd one out here, and that is the point. The others sell your hours on ongoing projects; Terac sells your opinion in discrete sessions. The per-hour rate can be excellent, but the volume is unpredictable, so it complements those platforms rather than replacing them. Compare the whole field in our guide to the best AI training platforms that pay.
Is Terac Worth It?
Worth it if you
- Have a specific professional expertise researchers want to interview
- Are in a supported country (you can sign up and verify ID)
- Want high pay per session rather than steady hours
- Will treat it as opportunistic income alongside other platforms
Skip it if you
- Need predictable weekly income
- Hit the country-not-supported notice
- Have no specialised professional background
- Are not willing to be screened out repeatedly
Our verdict: Terac is legit, pays properly, and its per-session rates are among the best in this space. It is also early-stage and heavily screened, which is why the account we reviewed took $20 rather than $350. The geo-gate is loosening, though: Kenya went from blocked in July 2026 to verified and paid via M-Pesa by September. Sign up if your expertise is specific and your country clears sign-up, keep your expectations at "occasional windfall" rather than salary, and run it alongside a platform with steadier work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Terac legit or a scam?
Terac is legit. We earned and successfully withdrew money twice, $20 in July 2026 and $16.80 to M-Pesa in September 2026, it verifies users with government ID and phone verification, it names its founders and clients, it holds 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot across 23 reviews, and it never charges you to join. It is early-stage with no disclosed funding, and heavy screening frustrates many applicants, but neither of those makes it a scam.
What is Terac.com?
Terac is an expert marketplace. It matches verified professionals to paid research studies, interviews, and AI evaluation work for market-research firms, human-data companies, and AI labs. Work is episodic and project-based rather than employment.
How much does Terac pay?
On our board, one-time studies ran from $100 to $350, a multi-part diary study paid $200 plus $250 for a follow-up interview, and project-based work paid $80 to $100 an hour. Referrals pay $1,000. Those are listed prices, though. Because most applications are screened out, the realised total on the account we reviewed was $20 across 6 studies.
Does Terac pay, and how do you get the money?
Yes. Once your balance reaches $12.50 you request a withdrawal and choose a payout method. In September 2026 ours went to M-Pesa: $16.80 requested and completed the same day, with a $0.17 inclusive fee. The cap is $2,000 per transaction and identity verification must be complete. An earlier July 2026 withdrawal used Terac's older Virtual Incentives redemption-link flow, which has since been replaced.
Which countries does Terac support?
Terac Support told us it operates in over 100 countries, and that if you can sign up and verify your identity, your country is supported for interviews. If you see the "country not supported" message, participation and payouts are not available where you are, and individual studies can carry their own country restrictions. That list does change: Kenya returned this notice in July 2026, yet by September 2026 a Nairobi account verified and was paid to M-Pesa, so it is worth retrying if you were blocked before. Terac's published network covers 108 countries, but it is concentrated: North America 55.8 percent, Asia-Pacific 24.6 percent, Europe 11.0 percent, Latin America 5.8 percent, Africa 2.0 percent, and the Middle East 0.4 percent. Payouts are supported in 90 or more countries.
Do I need AI experience to join Terac?
No. Most studies want your professional expertise, not AI skills. The board we saw was recruiting lawyers, engineers, insurance adjusters, accountants, IT managers, and marketers to talk about their own daily work. Some AI evaluation projects exist and do favour technical or PhD-level backgrounds.
