Job description

AIxBlock is collecting English voice recordings for an AI research project. We need 10 native English speakers, locating in the USA (excluding Maryland, Illinois, Texas, Washington, and California.) to read a set of short sentences using our recording platform on your phone, in quiet environment. Each person will record around 1800 utterances, around 3 hours of audio in total.

  • One-time remote task
  • Pay: $120 flat fee per participant
  • Deadline: Within 7 days of your start date

Important Note Before You Apply

This is a KYC-required project. This means we need to verify that each participant is a real person and that their profile information matches their official ID.

What You'll Do

  • Use our recording platform on a smartphone or laptop.
  • Read up to 1800 short sentences, each typically 5–8 seconds long.
  • Record one sentence at a time, then stop and save before moving to the next sentence.
  • Total session time: approximately 3 hours

Requirements

  • Must be based in the United States, excluding Maryland, Illinois, Texas, Washington, and California.

  • Native English speaker.

  • Own or have reliable access to a smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer with a working microphone.

  • Have access to a quiet room with no background noise.

  • Have a stable internet connection.

  • Have a clear, natural speaking voice.

  • Be able to follow the recording instructions carefully and complete any required re-recordings within the project timeline.

Recording Guidelines

You will receive full instructions before your session. Key points:

  • Record in a quiet room — no background music, fan, AC noise, or echo
  • Hold your phone 5–10cm from your mouth
  • Read each sentence once as shown on screen, clearly and naturally, at a comfortable pace.
  • Minor word slips are fine as long as the sentence is still clear and within the time frame

Voice Profiles We’re Looking For

We are recruiting 10 participants with a mix of:

  • Male and female voices, ideally a roughly equal split.
  • Primarily American English accents, including General American, Southern, East Coast, Midwest, and West Coast accents.

What verification does AIxBlock require?
A lot. KYC, biometric enrollment, device fingerprinting and credential validation to start, then random biometric re-authentication and liveness checks during sessions, plus behavioural anomaly detection. It reduces proxy fraud, and it is also real biometric data collection, so decide if you are comfortable with that.
Do I need experience to contribute?
Not strictly. AIxBlock provides hands-on training and guidelines and recruits native speakers of any language, transcriptionists, linguists, annotators, and voice actors, alongside domain experts in medicine, law, finance, and tech for specialist projects.
