Alignerr

Data Annotation & Labeling Contractor
Remote (Global) $35 – $70/hr July 14, 2026

Job description

Biochemistry Subject Matter Expert (AI Training)

About the Role

We're looking for PhD-level Biochemists to help train and improve the next generation of AI systems. Your deep scientific expertise will directly shape how AI reasons through complex biochemistry — from protein folding and enzyme kinetics to metabolic flux and molecular genetics.

This is a rare opportunity to apply your research knowledge outside the lab, work on genuinely challenging problems, and contribute to cutting-edge AI development — all on your own schedule.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design Advanced Problems — Craft challenging biochemistry scenarios across domains like nucleic acid chemistry, proteomics, structural biology, and drug-target interactions to rigorously test AI performance
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop precise, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that guide AI toward accurate, high-level scientific reasoning
  • Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated biochemical pathways, molecular structures, and mathematical proofs for technical accuracy and adherence to scientific standards
  • Refine AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors such as incorrect stoichiometry, misunderstood stereochemistry, or flawed reaction mechanisms, and provide structured feedback to improve model performance

Who You Are

  • PhD (completed or in final stages) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundational expertise in areas such as enzymology, structural biology, cellular metabolism, or bioinformatics
  • Able to communicate complex biological and chemical concepts clearly and precisely in written form
  • High attention to detail when reviewing chemical equations, molecular diagrams, and experimental protocols
  • Self-directed and comfortable working independently in a remote, async environment
  • No prior AI experience required

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, data quality, or evaluation workflows
  • Familiarity with computational biochemistry tools such as PyMOL, AlphaFold, or BLAST

Why Join Us

  • Work on intellectually stimulating problems at the frontier of AI and life sciences
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and as much as you choose
  • Collaborate with a global network of expert scientists and researchers
  • Gain firsthand exposure to how advanced large language models are trained and evaluated
  • Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and meaningful impact
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
