Job description

Biochemistry Subject Matter Expert (AI Training)

About the Role

We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more scientifically rigorous AI — and we need expert biochemists to make it happen. As a Biochemistry Subject Matter Expert, your deep knowledge of molecular biology, enzyme kinetics, and metabolic systems will directly shape how AI reasons through complex scientific problems.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed to fit around your existing schedule. No prior AI experience required — your scientific expertise is what matters.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design Challenging Problems — Create advanced biochemistry problems spanning nucleic acid chemistry, proteomics, enzyme kinetics, and drug-target interactions to rigorously stress-test AI performance
  • Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for high-level scientific reasoning in AI systems
  • Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated biochemical pathways, molecular structures, and mathematical proofs for scientific accuracy, safety, and adherence to established standards
  • Refine AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors — such as incorrect stoichiometry, flawed stereochemistry, or misapplied biochemical principles — and deliver structured feedback to improve model performance
  • Work Independently — Complete task-based assignments asynchronously on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Hold a PhD (completed or in final stages) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field
  • Have strong foundational expertise in one or more of: structural biology, enzymology, cellular metabolism, or bioinformatics
  • Can communicate complex biochemical and chemical concepts clearly and precisely in written English
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail when reviewing chemical equations, molecular diagrams, and experimental protocols
  • No prior AI or data annotation experience required

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, data quality review, or evaluation workflows
  • Familiarity with computational biochemistry tools such as PyMOL, AlphaFold, or BLAST
  • Background in scientific writing, peer review, or technical editing

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs and scientists
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and how much you want
  • Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and global collaboration
  • Contribute to meaningful work that shapes how AI understands science
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
