Mercor is building the Industrial Technical Visual Reasoning Benchmark, an evaluation dataset designed to measure how effectively AI models reason over authentic engineering visuals.
Process Engineering experts are needed to create benchmark problems using real-world industrial engineering artifacts from domains such as:
- Oil & Gas
- Chemicals
- Energy
- Industrial Processing
The project focuses on evaluating visual reasoning, structural interpretation, and multi-step engineering analysis rather than simple factual recall.
Key Responsibilities
Create Benchmark Problems
Source authentic professional engineering artifacts including:
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
- Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Control-loop diagrams
- Plant layouts
Create benchmark questions that cannot be solved using text alone
Design problems requiring:
- Visual interpretation
- Structural reasoning
- Multi-step engineering analysis
Develop Solutions
- Determine concise and unambiguous final answers
- Write professional-grade step-by-step worked solutions
- Ensure solutions reflect real-world engineering reasoning and methodology
Dataset Annotation
- Tag benchmark problems using:
- Engineering domain
- Artifact type
- Skill tested
- Difficulty level
Quality Assurance
- Participate in peer-review workflows
- Review benchmark content created by other engineering experts
- Ensure technical accuracy and consistency before benchmark publication
