What is Nextdoor?

Nextdoor is a neighborhood social network. Its app and website connect people to their local neighborhood: neighbors talk to each other, discover and recommend local businesses, get local news and safety updates, buy and sell items, find lost pets, organize events, and hear from public agencies and local governments. The idea is a trusted, place-based network, membership is tied to your actual neighborhood, which makes it different from broad social networks. Nextdoor is active in more than 330,000 neighborhoods across 11 countries. It was founded in 2008 (and publicly launched in 2011) by Nirav Tolia, Sarah Leary, Prakash Janakiraman, and David Wiesen, and is headquartered in San Francisco, with a new office opening in Dallas. The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange (ticker KIND) through a 2021 SPAC merger. In a notable leadership change, co-founder Nirav Tolia returned in 2024 as CEO, President, and Chairperson, succeeding Sarah Friar (the former Square CFO, who had led Nextdoor from 2018). Under Tolia's return the company has focused on stabilizing and rebuilding the product: 2025 revenue grew to about $258 million and Nextdoor reached adjusted-EBITDA profitability, ahead of its own projections.

Mission & values

Cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on, by connecting neighbors, local businesses, and public services.

Qualifications

Nextdoor hires across the functions of a consumer-internet and advertising company. On the technical side: software engineering (backend, frontend, mobile iOS/Android, data, machine learning and recommendations, ads and monetization, platform and infrastructure), data science and analytics, and product management and design. Because its business is largely advertising and local commerce, it hires heavily in go-to-market too: advertising and brand sales, local and small-business sales, sales operations, and account management, plus trust and safety, community and content operations, and public-agency partnerships. It also hires marketing, finance, legal, and people functions. Application flow lives at nextdoor.com/careers (or about.nextdoor.com). The company is headquartered in San Francisco and is opening an office in Dallas, and it hires mostly in the US with some roles remote or hybrid and others office-based, plus limited international hiring in the markets it operates; work authorization depends on the country. Experience in consumer social, marketplaces, ads/monetization, trust and safety, or local commerce is a strong signal. Check each posting for location and remote eligibility.
