Honor
Home-care company + tech platform for senior in-home care; acquired Home Instead (1,100+ locations). Founded 2014, SF. Unicorn. Caregiving is in-home/local; corporate/tech roles remote-friendly.
What is Honor?
Honor is a home-care company for older adults that pairs a real care business with a technology platform for the home-care industry. On one side, it delivers in-home care to seniors, help with daily living, mobility, companionship, and support that lets people age at home, provided by Care Professionals (caregivers). On the other, it has built the "Care Platform," software and operations that run home-care agencies (scheduling, matching caregivers to clients, billing, and quality), which is a major part of what Honor sells and operates. In 2021 Honor acquired Home Instead, a global home-care franchise network with more than 1,100 locations, creating what it describes as the largest in-home senior-care network in the western hemisphere. Honor was founded in 2014 in San Francisco by Seth Sternberg, who is CEO and previously co-founded Meebo (a messaging company sold to Google). It has raised a $70 million Series E and reached a valuation of more than $1.25 billion, making it a unicorn, backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Thrive Capital. For anyone considering Honor, the most important thing to understand is that it has two very different kinds of jobs, described next.
Mission & values
Change the way society cares for older adults, by making high-quality in-home care and the technology behind it work better for seniors, families, and caregivers.
Qualifications
Honor's roles split into two clearly different groups, and the distinction matters a lot on a remote job board. First, Care Professionals (caregivers): these are the people who provide care in clients' homes. That work is inherently local and in-person, not remote, requires the relevant caregiver qualifications and background checks, and is hired market by market through Honor and the Home Instead network. If you are looking specifically for remote work, caregiving roles are not that. Second, corporate and technology roles at Honor: software engineering (backend, frontend, mobile, data, and platform), product management and design, data science, plus operations, care operations and support, finance, marketing, sales/partnerships (working with agencies and franchises), legal, and people. These corporate and tech roles are the ones that are often remote or hybrid. Application flow lives at honorcare.com (careers) for corporate roles, while caregiver roles are recruited locally through Honor and Home Instead. For corporate roles, experience in marketplaces, healthcare or home-care operations, or scaling technology and operations is a strong signal; roles generally require US work authorization.
