What is Enpal?

Enpal is a German greentech company making residential solar and home electrification mainstream. It sells and installs rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery storage, EV wallboxes (chargers), and energy-efficient heat pumps for homeowners, offered either to buy or to rent with no required upfront investment, and ties them together with a smart energy-management platform called Enpal.One that optimizes a household's energy use and savings. The rent-to-own and subscription model, plus full-service installation, is central to Enpal's pitch: it lowers the barrier for ordinary homeowners to go solar. Enpal was founded in 2017 in Berlin by Mario Kohle, Jochen Ziervogel, and Viktor Wingert; Mario Kohle is CEO and previously co-founded and exited the online marketplace Aroundhome, and has been recognized on the TIME100 Next list. Enpal became Germany's first "green unicorn" in 2021 at a valuation over $1B, and was later valued around $2.4B, having raised several hundred million euros from investors including SoftBank (which led a Series C), HV Capital, TPG, and SolarCity co-founder Peter Rive. It reached profitability in 2022 and generated roughly 900M EUR in revenue in 2023, and it employs thousands of people. Because installing hardware on homes is a physical business, a large share of Enpal's workforce is field-based in Germany.

Qualifications

Enpal hires two very different populations, which matters a lot for anyone looking for remote work. First, a large field and operations organization that is inherently on-site in Germany: solar installers and electricians, roofers, warehouse and logistics staff, regional operations, and field sales, plus a big inside-sales and customer organization. These require being in Germany, usually German language, and for trades, relevant certifications. Second, corporate, technology, and product roles based around the Berlin headquarters: software and data engineering, machine learning, product, design, energy and grid engineering, finance, HR, marketing, and G&A, which are more likely to be hybrid or remote within Germany.
