The most useful financial analysis I have ever done was also the simplest: I modelled the unit economics of a product line that the business had assumed was profitable. It was not. The conversation that followed changed the company's roadmap priorities for the next 12 months. That is the kind of work I came into finance to do.

At Vantara I owned the three-statement financial model and monthly reporting package for a Series B SaaS company. I rebuilt the revenue model from revenue-per-contract to an ARR waterfall with cohort-level expansion and contraction tracking — a change that made the churn problem visible in a way the old model hid. The model became the basis for the board presentation that led to our next funding round.

I also automated 12 recurring reports in Python that had been built as manual Excel processes. The automation saved 8 hours per month of analyst time and, more importantly, eliminated the category of error where a formula reference breaks silently over three months and no one notices. I introduced a reconciliation check that validates every automated output against the source system before it goes to stakeholders.

I communicate financial analysis in plain language. My monthly CFO pack has a one-paragraph executive summary that says what happened, why it happened, and what it means for the quarter outlook — before any charts or tables. I have found that the analysts who get promoted are not the ones who build the most complex models, but the ones whose analysis actually changes a decision.
