Augmodo
Spatial-AI for retail: associates wear a camera "SmartBadge" that scans shelves as they walk, building a real-time store digital twin. Founded 2023, raised $42.9M (Series A led by TQ Ventures).
What is Augmodo?
Augmodo is a spatial-AI startup that gives physical retail stores a real-time digital twin. Instead of fixed cameras or shelf-scanning robots, store associates simply wear a camera "SmartBadge" and go about their normal work walking the aisles; the badge continuously scans shelves and, using computer vision and 3D mapping, produces live data on empty shelves, out-of-stocks, overstocking, planogram compliance, and task management. Augmodo positions itself as the first to approach store inventory from a wearable-camera perspective rather than robots or fixed infrastructure. The company was founded in 2023 by Ross Finman (CEO), who previously led augmented-reality wearables and smartglasses work at Niantic. Augmodo is based in the Seattle area (Finman is in Kirkland, Washington) and runs a small, mostly-remote team of around 20 people. It has raised approximately $42.9M across two rounds: a $5.3M seed followed by a $37.5M Series A in 2025 led by TQ Ventures, with participation from Lerer Hippeau, Arena Holdings, Jefferson River Capital, NewFare, WIN, and Interlace. The pitch is that accurate, continuously-updated shelf data unlocks better on-shelf availability, labor efficiency, and eventually a spatial-computing platform for the store.
Mission & values
Give every physical store a real-time, self-updating digital twin, so retailers always know what is on their shelves and associates spend less time counting and more time serving customers.
Qualifications
Augmodo hires across engineering (computer vision, machine learning, 3D reconstruction and SLAM, robotics and spatial computing, embedded and hardware for the SmartBadge, backend, mobile, data platform), product, design, deployment and field engineering, and retail-focused sales, partnerships, and customer success. Application flow lives at augmodo.com (careers) and LinkedIn. Computer-vision, 3D-mapping, and spatial-AI roles are the core of the team given the product turns wearable video into an accurate store map. The company is small (around 20 people) and mostly remote, so hires are highly leveraged and generalist-friendly; early-stage startup equity is a meaningful part of compensation. Candidates with hands-on production experience in computer vision, SLAM / 3D reconstruction, edge ML, or retail-tech deployment are strongly prioritized.
