Job description

Mercor is seeking experienced Pro Bono Counsel to evaluate AI-generated legal analyses involving civil legal services and access-to-justice issues. You will apply broad civil legal expertise to assess legal reasoning, procedural guidance, and practical legal advice while providing structured feedback that improves next-generation legal AI systems.

This is a flexible remote contract opportunity for attorneys with significant pro bono and civil legal practice experience who want to help build more accurate AI tools supporting access to justice.

Key Responsibilities

Review AI-Generated Legal Analyses

  • Evaluate AI-generated legal analyses for:
    • Legal accuracy
    • Completeness
    • Practical usefulness
    • Procedural correctness

Assess Civil Legal Matters

  • Review legal scenarios involving:
    • Housing law
    • Family law
    • Consumer protection
    • Foreclosure
    • Debt-related matters

Improve AI Legal Reasoning

  • Assess:

    • Legal reasoning
    • Procedural guidance
    • Issue spotting
    • Access-to-justice considerations

  • Identify legal inaccuracies, missing legal issues, and procedural gaps.

  • Provide structured written evaluations and actionable feedback to improve AI-generated legal responses.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

  • Active U.S. bar admission in good standing.

  • Experience managing or participating in pro bono legal initiatives.

  • Strong background in civil legal practice.

  • Excellent legal writing, analytical, and evaluation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as Pro Bono Counsel or Pro Bono Partner.

  • Experience coordinating legal clinics or volunteer attorney programs.

  • Expertise across multiple civil legal practice areas.

  • Experience with legal technology, AI, or AI-assisted legal workflows.
