Role Overview
Mercor is seeking experienced Legal Aid and Staff Attorneys to support a short-term AI evaluation project focused on civil legal services. In this role, you will review AI-generated legal analyses involving housing, family law, consumer protection, debt defense, foreclosure, and related civil matters while providing structured feedback to improve the accuracy, reasoning, and practical usefulness of next-generation legal AI systems.
This is a flexible remote contract opportunity for experienced civil legal services attorneys who want to apply their legal expertise to improve AI systems that support access to justice.
Key Responsibilities
Review AI Legal Analysis
- Evaluate AI-generated legal analyses for:
- Legal accuracy
- Completeness
- Practical applicability
- Sound legal reasoning
Evaluate Civil Legal Scenarios
- Review hypothetical cases involving:
- Housing and landlord-tenant law
- Evictions
- Subsidized housing
- Foreclosure
- Family law
- Child custody
- Child support
- Domestic violence
- Protective orders
- Consumer protection
- Debt collection
- Garnishments
- Bankruptcy
- Predatory lending
Improve AI Quality
Identify:
- Legal inaccuracies
- Procedural errors
- Missing legal considerations
- Jurisdiction-specific issues
Provide structured written feedback that improves AI-generated legal reasoning.
Apply practical courtroom advocacy and client representation experience when evaluating responses.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active U.S. Bar admission in good standing.
- 3+ years of professional experience practicing civil legal services.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of:
- Housing law
- Family law
- Consumer protection
- Debt defense
- Foreclosure
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for Legal Aid organizations or nonprofit legal service providers.
- Familiarity with jurisdiction-specific civil court procedures.
- Experience representing vulnerable or underserved populations.
- Experience reviewing legal work or supervising junior attorneys.
- Interest in legal technology, AI evaluation, or AI-assisted legal workflows.
