Role Overview
Mercor is seeking experienced Public Interest Attorneys to evaluate AI-generated legal reasoning across a broad range of civil justice matters. You will review realistic legal scenarios, assess legal analysis, identify reasoning gaps, and provide structured expert feedback that improves the quality, accuracy, and practical usefulness of next-generation legal AI systems.
This is a flexible remote contract opportunity for attorneys with backgrounds in nonprofit advocacy, civil litigation, impact litigation, or public interest law who want to help advance AI-powered legal technology.
Key Responsibilities
Review AI Legal Analysis
- Evaluate AI-generated legal analyses for:
- Legal accuracy
- Practical usefulness
- Completeness
- Sound legal reasoning
Assess Civil Justice Scenarios
- Review legal scenarios involving:
- Housing law
- Family law
- Consumer protection
- Debt collection
- Bankruptcy
Evaluate Legal Reasoning
Assess:
- Issue spotting
- Procedural correctness
- Litigation strategy
- Legal analysis quality
Identify legal errors and reasoning gaps.
Deliver structured written evaluations and recommend improvements to AI-generated legal responses.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active U.S. Bar admission in good standing.
- 5+ years of professional experience practicing public interest law or civil litigation.
- Strong background in civil legal advocacy.
- Excellent legal writing, analytical, and reasoning skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience at nonprofit legal organizations or impact litigation firms.
- Expertise in:
- Employment law
- Elder law
- Disability rights
- Experience with policy advocacy or systemic legal reform.
- Experience supervising attorneys or legal fellows.
- Interest in legal AI, AI evaluation, or emerging legal technology.
Compensation
- $150 USD per hour
