Role Overview

Mercor is hiring Japanese Music Experts to support a frontier generative-music AI lab. This remote part-time opportunity is designed for musicians, composers, transcribers, engineers, and music educators with strong musical ability and Japanese language expertise.

The role focuses on evaluating and improving AI-generated music by applying expert listening skills, musical knowledge, and Japanese lyric understanding.

Key Responsibilities

Music Evaluation & Analysis

  • Evaluate AI-generated music outputs for quality, accuracy, and musicality.
  • Assess melody, rhythm, harmony, tempo, and overall musical structure.
  • Provide expert feedback to improve generative music models.

Audio Transcription & Musical Understanding

  • Transcribe melodies by ear with accurate pitch and rhythm.
  • Identify musical elements including:
    • Key signatures
    • Tempo
    • Time signatures
    • Melodic structure
  • Analyze musical compositions and generated audio content.

Japanese Language Evaluation

  • Review Japanese sung lyrics for accuracy and clarity.
  • Understand Japanese accents, pronunciation differences, and unclear vocal delivery.
  • Evaluate lyrical content despite challenging audio conditions.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Formal musical training or professional music experience.
  • Background as a:
    • Musician
