Role Overview

Mercor is seeking General Science Experts to help advance frontier AI systems by strengthening their scientific reasoning capabilities. In this fully remote contract role, you will create challenging cross-disciplinary STEM problems, review technical content authored by other experts, and evaluate AI-generated solutions and multi-step reasoning for scientific accuracy, rigor, and correctness.

This opportunity is ideal for broad-based scientists, STEM competition medalists, and interdisciplinary researchers with expertise spanning multiple scientific disciplines and the ability to evaluate complex reasoning across fields.

Key Responsibilities

Develop Cross-Disciplinary STEM Problems

  • Design expert-level problems spanning multiple scientific disciplines.
  • Create challenging olympiad-style and scientific discovery tasks.
  • Produce scientifically rigorous reference solutions for AI evaluation.

Review Scientific Content

  • Review problems authored by other experts for clarity, technical accuracy, and appropriate difficulty.
  • Verify scientific correctness and establish reliable ground-truth solutions.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance quality and precision.

Evaluate AI Responses

  • Assess AI-generated solutions and multi-step reasoning across STEM domains.
  • Compare multiple model outputs against expert expectations.
  • Deliver Accept, Revise, or Reject decisions with detailed written justifications.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise across multiple STEM disciplines, including one or more of:

- Physics

- Chemistry

- Biology

- Mathematics

  • Ability to evaluate scientific reasoning beyond a single area of specialization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong scientific writing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Science Olympiad medalist or competition winner, including:

- International Physics Olympiad (IPhO)

- International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO)

- International Biology Olympiad (IBO)

- International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)

  • Experience as an interdisciplinary or polymath researcher.
  • Experience reviewing scientific research or technical content.
  • Interest in AI model evaluation and scientific reasoning.

Compensation

  • $75 per hour
