Procurement Expert

Role Overview

Mercor is seeking an experienced Procurement Expert to help train and evaluate next-generation AI systems by contributing real-world procurement and vendor management expertise. In this fully remote hourly contract role, you will design and validate realistic procurement workflows, review vendor requests, and create high-quality evaluation criteria that teach AI how experienced procurement professionals make decisions.

This opportunity is ideal for senior procurement, sourcing, vendor management, and spend operations professionals with extensive experience managing vendor onboarding and contract renewals.

Key Responsibilities

Evaluate Vendor Requests

• Review simulated new vendor intake requests.
• Benchmark pricing and contract terms against realistic company reference data.
• Assess procurement decisions using structured business criteria.

Review Procurement Workflows

• Consolidate reviews from multiple business functions, including finance, legal, security, and information technology.
• Develop well-supported final approval or rejection recommendations.

Create AI Training Content

• Author detailed evaluation rubrics that reflect real procurement decision-making.
• Develop high-quality reference ("golden") responses for AI training.
• Document the reasoning behind procurement recommendations.

Validate Simulated Environments

• Audit simulated procurement environments for realism and consistency.
• Identify contradictions or unrealistic scenarios before tasks are released.
• Help improve AI reasoning across procurement and vendor management workflows.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in procurement, spend operations, and vendor management.
• Hands-on experience managing vendor onboarding, vendor evaluations, contract renewals, and procurement review processes.
• Experience working within mature procurement organizations with formal vendor approval processes.
• Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce structured, rubric-based evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with modern spend management platforms and e-procurement systems.
• Previous experience with AI training, task authoring, and rubric development.

Compensation

• $70 to $100 per hour
• Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
