Role Overview
Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research laboratory to improve next-generation AI systems used in medical coding, health information management (HIM), and healthcare revenue cycle operations.
The organization is seeking experienced Coding Managers and HIM Coding Leaders to evaluate AI-powered coding solutions and help train autonomous coding systems. Your expertise in professional fee coding, inpatient facility coding, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, DRG assignment, and coding compliance will directly inform AI tools designed to improve coding quality, productivity, and revenue integrity.
Responsibilities
Coding Operations Leadership
- Oversee professional fee (ProFee) and/or inpatient facility coding operations
- Ensure coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance
- Manage coding workflow queues and monitor coding turnaround times
AI Evaluation & Quality Review
- Review AI-generated coding assignments including ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, ICD-10-PCS procedure codes, CPT codes, HCPCS codes, and DRG assignments
- Evaluate outputs for coding accuracy, compliance, revenue impact, and guideline adherence
- Annotate AI outputs and provide structured feedback to support AI training datasets
Coding Audits & Quality Assurance
- Conduct coding quality audits and identify coding errors and compliance risks
Requirements
- 5+ years of medical coding experience
- Minimum 2 years in a Coding Manager or HIM leadership role
- Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT coding, and HCPCS coding
- Experience with 3M, Nuance, Optum360, TruCode, or similar coding and HIM platforms
Preferred Qualifications
- CPC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT certification
- Experience with Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) or NLP-based coding solutions
