Job description
Mercor is seeking Certified Medical Coders with expertise in CPT and ICD-10 coding to support high-volume medical coding projects. In this fully remote contract role, you will accurately code U.S. healthcare documentation, ensure compliance with coding regulations, and maintain exceptional quality standards while contributing to AI-powered healthcare initiatives.
This opportunity is ideal for actively certified medical coders with strong CPT coding experience who are comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform Medical Coding
- Accurately assign CPT and ICD-10 codes to clinical documentation and medical records.
- Ensure coding complies with payer requirements and regulatory standards.
- Maintain high levels of coding accuracy and productivity.
Review Clinical Documentation
- Evaluate medical records for coding accuracy and completeness.
- Identify documentation issues that may affect coding quality.
- Resolve coding discrepancies in collaboration with quality teams.
Maintain Coding Compliance
- Follow U.S. healthcare coding standards and best practices.
- Support consistent, high-quality coding across projects.
- Contribute to quality assurance initiatives and continuous process improvement.
Required Qualifications
Active CPC and/or CRC certification from AAPC or an equivalent organization.
Proven experience with:
- CPT coding
- ICD-10 coding
Currently certified and actively practicing as a medical coder.
Strong attention to detail and coding accuracy.
Ability to work independently in a production-focused environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) coding.
Strong understanding of MEAT documentation principles:

Experience with risk adjustment coding.
Compensation
- $45–$65 per hour
- Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
Work Arrangement
