Role Overview

Mercor is seeking experienced Law Experts to help train next-generation AI systems by evaluating complex legal research and reasoning. In this fully remote hourly contract role, you will review AI-generated legal research, verify legal authorities, and provide structured feedback that improves AI performance in legal analysis and research.

This opportunity is ideal for practicing attorneys, research attorneys, judicial law clerks, law librarians, and other legal professionals with extensive experience using Westlaw.

Key Responsibilities

Evaluate AI Legal Research

  • Review AI-generated legal research against professional standards.
  • Assess the accuracy and quality of legal reasoning.
  • Evaluate whether AI responses appropriately support legal conclusions.

Verify Legal Authorities

  • Validate cited case law, statutes, and regulations.
  • Confirm cited authorities remain current and constitute good law.
  • Use Westlaw research tools, including KeyCite.

Identify Legal Research Issues

  • Detect incorrect citations, misstated holdings, outdated authority, missing controlling precedent.
  • Distinguish binding from persuasive authority.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in legal practice, litigation, legal research, or law librarianship.
  • Regular professional experience using Westlaw and KeyCite.
  • J.D. and bar admission, or MLIS with professional law-librarian/legal-research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Judicial Law Clerk or Research Attorney experience.
  • Lex Machina, PACER, Practical Law; multi-jurisdiction / 50-state research.

Compensation

  • $75 to $150 per hour
