Manufacturing Design Engineer
Job description
Role Title: Manufacturing Design Engineer
Role Type: Contractor
Location: Remote
micro1 is engaging Manufacturing Design Engineer experts to contribute to a customer’s project focused on advanced mechanical design for manufacturing. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters. Participants will leverage proficiency in FreeCAD or similar parametric CAD platforms to design, document, and validate production-ready components and assemblies. This opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about precision engineering, technical documentation, and advancing the future of intelligent design tools.
Scope of Work
- Create and modify detailed parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies using FreeCAD or comparable software.
- Develop comprehensive engineering drawings, including GD&T and tolerance stack-ups, suitable for manufacturing handoff.
- Design for a variety of manufacturing processes, such as sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, plastics, and injection molding.
- Perform CAD validation and quality assurance reviews to ensure model accuracy and readiness for production use.
- Prepare clear, concise technical documentation and assembly instructions as reference materials for AI model training.
- Incorporate feedback from technical reviewers to revise and improve CAD models and supporting documents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience designing mechanical components for manufacturing environments.
- Expertise in FreeCAD or similar parametric CAD software for advanced modeling, assemblies, and drawing generation.
- Hands-on exposure to sheet metal, CNC, plastics, and injection molding design considerations.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) best practices.
- Proven ability to produce production-grade CAD models and validate them against real-world manufacturability criteria.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, ensuring clarity in documentation and collaborative exchanges.
- Python scripting experience for CAD automation is highly preferred, though not required.
