Databricks is seeking a Field Chief Technology Officer (Field CTO) for the Public Sector business to serve as a senior, customer-facing technology and mission transformation leader for strategic government and education accounts. This individual-contributor role sits at the intersection of data and AI strategy, mission modernization, public-sector operating models, and executive relationship building, working closely with C-level leaders to drive multi-year change on the data platform while representing real-world needs back into Databricks. The role will focus on helping agencies, departments, and public institutions use the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform to modernize data estates, strengthen security, improve operations, and deploy AI responsibly in support of mission outcomes.
Impact you will have:
- Build and maintain trusted-advisor relationships with C-level and mission leadership across public-sector accounts, including CIOs, CTOs, CDOs, CISOs, program executives, mission owners, and transformation leaders.
- Shape executive thinking on secure data and AI modernization, emphasizing lakehouse and data platform modernization as a foundation for analytics, governance, and generative AI in public-sector environments.
- Lead executive briefings, strategy sessions, and mission workshops that connect agency priorities, regulatory obligations, security requirements, budget realities, and workforce constraints to practical Databricks-based roadmaps.
- Serve as a deep technical counterpart in the field with strong working knowledge of Databricks products (L200-L300 proficiency) and the ability to credibly engage architects, engineers, analysts, data scientists, and security stakeholders on design trade-offs.
- Translate recurring customer needs into reusable public-sector reference architectures, solution blueprints, technical narratives, and thought leadership assets.
- Partner with Account Executives, Solutions Architects, product specialists, professional services, and ecosystem partners to drive complex, multi-year platform decisions, expansions, and mission programs.
- Provide structured feedback from strategic public-sector customers into Product, Engineering, and Field leadership, especially around governance, security, compliance, interoperability, and public-sector feature requirements
- Mentor senior field engineering talent and help codify playbooks for complex public-sector engagements, including executive discovery, mission-value framing, partner orchestration, and secure deployment patterns.
- Represent Databricks externally with senior public-sector audiences through conferences, councils, roundtables, webinars, and executive forums.
What we look for:
- 15+ years of experience spanning enterprise technology, consulting, and public-sector transformation.
- Significant experience working in or with U.S. public-sector institutions, such as federal civilian agencies, defense organizations, intelligence-related environments, state and local government, or education.
- Direct experience in customer-facing pre-sales, technical strategy, architecture, advisory, or transformation leadership roles.
- Strong background in modern data architectures, including distributed data systems, data engineering, analytics, governance, and AI or machine learning platforms.
- Experience with public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with mission areas relevant to Databricks public-sector offerings, such as cybersecurity, public safety, fraud detection, benefits modernization, defense analytics, logistics, or geospatial and IoT-enabled operations.
- Familiarity with public-sector procurement realities, partner-led delivery models, and the rhythm of government budget, program, and acquisition cycles.
- U.S. citizenship required and active clearance preferred
