Job description
Mechanical Engineering Expert (AI Training)
About the Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers to make it happen. Your deep domain knowledge will directly shape how AI understands and reasons through complex engineering problems in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and beyond.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your graduate-level expertise in a new and impactful way, working flexibly on your own schedule from anywhere in the world.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Engineering Problems — Craft challenging, graduate-level problems across domains such as FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, thermodynamics, and material science to rigorously test AI performance
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop precise, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that AI models use as a foundation for learning
- Audit AI-Generated Technical Content — Evaluate AI outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO)
- Refine AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors in AI-generated engineering reasoning — such as incorrect force distributions or energy conservation violations — and provide structured feedback to improve model performance
Who You Are
- Holds or is pursuing a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
- Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely in writing
- High attention to detail when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
- Self-motivated, reliable, and comfortable working independently
- No prior AI experience required
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or evaluation workflows
- Proficiency with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
- Familiarity with evaluating AI-generated code or computational workflows
Why Join Us
- Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs and AI teams
- Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, anywhere in the world
- Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and global collaboration
- Gain firsthand exposure to how advanced large language models (LLMs) are trained and evaluated
- Contribute to meaningful work that advances the technical capabilities of AI
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
