Role Overview

Mercor is seeking Academic Writers & Researchers to help improve frontier AI models by reviewing, evaluating, annotating, and labeling AI-generated outputs across a variety of academic domains. You will apply research expertise and structured evaluation guidelines to benchmark AI performance and ensure high-quality training data.

This is a flexible remote contract opportunity for teachers, professors, researchers, Master's students, PhD candidates, and recent graduates with strong analytical, writing, and research skills.

Key Responsibilities

Review & Evaluate AI Outputs

  • Review AI-generated responses across multiple academic domains.
  • Evaluate content quality using detailed rubrics and evaluation guidelines.
  • Label and annotate datasets to improve AI model performance.

Research & Quality Assurance

  • Apply consistent judgment across large volumes of evaluation tasks.
  • Benchmark AI outputs for quality, accuracy, and reasoning.
  • Maintain high standards for data quality and annotation consistency.

Follow Evaluation Standards

  • Follow structured task instructions and project guidelines.
  • Produce reliable, objective evaluations that contribute to AI model improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in an academic field, or currently pursuing/recently completed a Master's or PhD.

  • Background as a:

    • Teacher
    • Professor
    • Academic Researcher

  • Academic expertise in fields such as:

    • History
    • Psychology
    • Art
    • Other academic disciplines

  • Strong research, analytical, and written communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to consistently apply detailed evaluation rubrics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI data annotation, AI evaluation, RLHF, or AI training projects.

Compensation

  • $65–$75 USD per hour
