Chess Expert (1800+ ELO) — Game Reconstruction & Transcript Correction

Mercor is seeking experienced Chess Experts (1800+ ELO) to contribute to a high-quality chess dataset for a leading AI research partner. In this remote contract role, you will correct AI-generated transcripts of chess commentary and reconstruct complete chess games using only the corrected narration. Your expertise will help improve AI understanding of chess notation, commentary, and game reconstruction.

Key Responsibilities

Transcript Correction

• Review speech-to-text transcripts of narrated chess games.
• Correct transcription errors involving:
  • Piece names
  • Board squares
  • Move notation
  • Chess terminology
• Use the synchronized transcript interface to verify corrections against the narration.

Game Reconstruction

• Reconstruct complete chess games using only the corrected transcript.
• Build the game on an analysis board (e.g., Lichess or Chess.com).
• Generate and submit the complete PGN.
• Determine whether the transcript uniquely specifies the full game.
• If reconstruction is ambiguous, identify the minimum missing information required to uniquely determine the game.

Quality Assurance

• Verify move legality and consistency throughout the reconstructed game.
• Ensure notation accuracy and attention to detail.
• Provide reliable, high-quality outputs suitable for AI training datasets.

Ideal Qualifications

• Chess rating of 1800+ ELO (FIDE or equivalent online rating).
• Fluent in reading and interpreting algebraic chess notation.
• Comfortable using analysis boards such as Lichess or Chess.com.
• Strong listening skills for spoken chess commentary.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking.

Compensation
