Job description

Biology Specialist (Masters/PhDs) - AI Training

About the Role

What if your years of biology research and expertise could directly shape how AI understands life sciences — influencing everything from how it reasons about genetics to how it tackles cutting-edge problems in biotech and bioinformatics?

We're looking for credentialed biology experts to join Alignerr's network of domain specialists, working alongside leading AI research teams to train and refine the next generation of AI models. This is your opportunity to apply deep scientific knowledge in a flexible, high-impact role — without leaving your home.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for working scientists, researchers, and academics who want to contribute meaningfully to AI development on their own schedule.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and critically review advanced biology problems with real-world scientific relevance
  • Apply your expertise in genetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, or related disciplines to design complex, nuanced problem statements
  • Evaluate AI-generated scientific reasoning for accuracy, depth, and rigor
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to strengthen AI model performance
  • Ensure scientific clarity, precision, and intellectual depth across all deliverables
  • Work independently on task-based assignments — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Hold a Master's or PhD in Biology or a closely related field (Genetics, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, etc.)
  • Deep subject-matter expertise in at least one of: genetics, biotechnology, or bioinformatics
  • Comfortable coding in Python or R for research or analytical tasks
  • Exceptionally clear written communicator — able to explain complex scientific concepts with precision
  • Detail-oriented and rigorous in your approach to scientific problems
  • Fluent in English and based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality review, or AI evaluation workflows
  • Background in academic publishing, peer review, or scientific writing
  • Familiarity with AI tools or machine learning concepts as an end user
  • Cross-disciplinary expertise spanning multiple biology sub-fields

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside the world's leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, substantive scientific work
  • Make a direct impact on how AI reasons about biology, medicine, and life sciences
  • Put your advanced degree to work in a high-value, intellectually stimulating role
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
