Role Overview
Mercor is seeking experienced Corporate / Controllership Accountants to help train next-generation AI systems by contributing real-world accounting expertise. In this fully remote hourly contract role, you will transform practical accounting workflows into structured training data, evaluate AI-generated accounting outputs, and provide expert feedback that improves AI performance in financial reporting and accounting operations.
This opportunity is ideal for accountants with experience in corporate accounting, controllership, financial reporting, month-end close, bookkeeping, and core accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities
Design Accounting Training Tasks
- Create realistic accounting scenarios based on day-to-day controllership responsibilities.
- Develop structured tasks involving:
- Financial statement preparation
- Journal entries
- Account reconciliations
- Bank reconciliations
- Month-end and period-end close
- Fixed asset accounting
- Depreciation schedules
- Accruals and prepaids
Evaluate AI Outputs
Review AI-generated accounting responses for:
- Accuracy
- GAAP compliance
- Professional accounting judgment
Compare multiple AI-generated solutions and identify the strongest response.
Improve AI Performance
- Provide detailed written feedback that helps improve AI reasoning for accounting and financial reporting tasks.
- Collaborate asynchronously with research teams throughout the project.
- Contribute structured accounting knowledge to enhance AI training datasets.
Required Qualifications
CPA designation or 3–5+ years of corporate, in-house, or public accounting experience.
Bachelor's degree in:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Related field
Hands-on experience managing:
- General ledger
- Month-end and period-end close
- Financial reporting
Experience using accounting software such as:
- QuickBooks
- NetSuite
- SAP
- Oracle
- Microsoft Excel
Strong written communication skills.
Excellent analytical abilities and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience across multiple accounting functions including bookkeeping, client accounting services (CAS), accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Strong knowledge of financial accounting and reporting best practices.
Compensation
- $80–$120 per hour
