Principal Product Manager, Interoperability
Job description
Datavant is the data collaboration platform trusted for healthcare. Guided by our mission to make the world’s health data secure, accessible and actionable, we provide critical data solutions for organizations across the healthcare ecosystem - including providers, health plans, researchers, and life sciences companies. From fulfilling a single patient’s request for their medical records to powering the AI revolution in healthcare, Datavanters are building the future of how data is connected and used to improve health.
By joining Datavant today, you’re stepping onto a driven and highly collaborative team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare.
About the Team
The Connections Product team at Datavant is responsible for building and evolving Datavant’s interoperability platform. This team sits at the center of how Datavant connects healthcare information sources to enable more scalable exchange of health data across the ecosystem.
We are focused on growing the network and advancing the capabilities that expand integration value, support new use cases, and strengthen how health data is exchanged across the platform. We partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Partnerships, and other Product teams to shape how Datavant’s interoperability platform evolves over time.
About the Role
You will join the Product team within the Connections product zone and play a senior individual contributor leadership role in shaping the strategy, roadmap, and evolution of Datavant’s interoperability platform. The Connections team’s mission is to advance the network and capabilities that power health data exchange across Datavant, enabling more scalable, reliable, and valuable interoperability across healthcare information sources, partners, and workflows. As a Principal Product Manager, you will help define where Datavant should invest, how our interoperability platform should scale, and how Connections can unlock broader strategic value across customers, partners, and internal product lines.
- Drive product strategy and impact: Lead product strategy for high-impact interoperability initiatives, working closely with Engineering, Operations, Partnerships, Commercial, and Product leaders across the organization to identify opportunities, prioritize investments, and deliver capabilities that expand the value, reach, and leverage of Connections across Datavant.
- Be customer- and market-focused: Obsess about identifying and solving high-value problems for customers, partners, and internal stakeholders. Bring a deep understanding of market needs, partner ecosystems, operational realities, and healthcare data exchange workflows to ensure the Connections roadmap drives measurable business outcomes and durable platform differentiation.
- Define product direction and requirements: Work closely with customers, partners, Engineering, and internal teams to translate complex business needs, interoperability constraints, technical possibilities, and strategic priorities into clear product direction, actionable requirements, and motivating narratives. Develop a deep understanding of workflows, source systems, exchange patterns, data models, and user needs to guide platform development.
- Navigate a dynamic interoperability landscape: Shape product direction in a space defined by evolving customer expectations, partner ecosystems, technical standards, regulatory requirements, and enterprise integration needs. Balance long-term platform strategy with near-term execution to ensure Datavant continues to deliver scalable, market-relevant capabilities.
- Be a leader: Lead through influence across Product, Engineering, Operations, Partnerships, and commercial teams. Provide clarity in ambiguous spaces, drive alignment across stakeholders, and help elevate product thinking across the broader Connections and interoperability organization.
- Operate like an owner: Take ownership of strategic product areas from opportunity identification through roadmap definition, development, launch, measurement, and iteration. Embrace a "no job is too small" attitude while ensuring the team stays focused on the highest-leverage opportunities for Datavant.
About You
- You have 8+ years in product management, product strategy, or a related role, ideally within healthcare technology, interoperability, platform products, APIs, data exchange, or complex enterprise software.
- You understand healthcare interoperability. You have experience working with APIs, EHR integrations, healthcare data exchange, provider or payer workflows, or adjacent areas where security, compliance, reliability, and operational complexity materially shape product decisions.
- You are familiar with common interoperability standards and integration patterns, such as FHIR, HL7, EHR APIs, data mapping, identity, consent, or similar approaches to exchanging healthcare data across complex systems.
- You are highly strategic. You can assess market opportunities, platform investments, customer needs, technical constraints, and business priorities to determine where Datavant should focus to create the most enterprise value through its interoperability platform.
- You are technical. When needed, you are comfortable diving into workflows, APIs, system behavior, data models, integration patterns, and technical constraints to understand what is happening and what should happen next. While you may not be writing production code, you partner deeply with engineers and can reason through how systems should work, scale, and create leverage.
- You know how to build platform products. You have helped evolve shared capabilities, not just one-off solutions, and understand how to create leverage through reusable services, scalable patterns, ecosystem reach, and thoughtful product architecture.
- You can lead without authority. You are comfortable influencing senior stakeholders, aligning cross-functional teams, and driving decisions in ambiguous, high-impact areas where there may not be a single obvious answer.
- You are highly organized and have strong execution discipline: others are confident in a strategic initiative’s outcome when they know you’re driving it.
- You write exceptional documents, presentations, diagrams, and product narratives. Your documentation creates alignment, sharpens decision-making, and leads to discussions about the substance of the strategy, not confusion about the intent.
- You are a great communicator and have the confidence to lead planning and strategy discussions with anyone or any group within the company. You can explain strategies, tradeoffs, rationales, and products in terms that each audience can understand.
- You are motivated by getting stuff done. You are wired to set a clear vision and make continual, measurable progress toward that vision. Neither strategy nor execution is satisfactory by itself to you — you want both.
- You are a team player. You put yourself in others’ positions and seek to understand their motivations, needs, perspectives, constraints, and potential points of confusion.
- You are proactive. You define how the product and platform should evolve, bring clarity to ambiguous opportunities, and bias toward action.
