AI Expert - Machine Learning & AI Research Contractor
Remote (Global) $60 – $80/hr July 14, 2026

Job description

Senior Machine Learning Expert (AI Training)

About the Role

What if your deep expertise in machine learning could directly shape how the world's most advanced AI systems reason, plan, and solve problems? We're looking for Senior Machine Learning Experts to do something uniquely impactful: teach AI how to think.

This project is about capturing the step-by-step reasoning of large language models — how they plan, use tools, and make decisions when tackling real, complex tasks. The data you create directly trains next-generation AI to reason more reliably and intelligently in the real world.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for senior-level ML professionals who want to contribute to cutting-edge AI research on their own schedule.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces that document how an LLM should plan and execute sophisticated technical tasks
  • Design and structure traces that clearly capture tool use, decision-making logic, and multi-step problem solving
  • Review and mentor reasoning trace quality — ensuring clarity, logical rigor, and alignment with model training goals
  • Develop data strategies that help LLMs navigate intricate, real-world scenarios with greater reliability
  • Apply your architectural knowledge of ML systems to produce training data that meaningfully improves model performance
  • Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Experienced ML professional with a strong background in model reasoning, training methodologies, or related technical fields
  • Skilled at decomposing complex, multi-step problems into clear, logical, and well-documented sequences
  • Deep familiarity with how large language models work — including evaluation, fine-tuning, and training pipelines
  • Naturally rigorous and detail-oriented — you hold your work to a high standard
  • Comfortable working independently on structured, task-based assignments
  • Strong written communicator who can explain technical reasoning clearly

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or model evaluation systems
  • Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level) demonstrating elite-level model understanding and feature engineering
  • Experience contributing to LLM pre-training, RLHF, or instruction-tuning workflows
  • Background in AI safety, alignment research, or model interpretability

Why Join Us

  • Work on some of the most consequential AI research happening right now — alongside leading labs and research teams
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where you do your best thinking
  • Freelance autonomy: set your own hours, choose your workload, and collaborate globally
  • Rare opportunity to directly influence how advanced AI systems reason and make decisions
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
