Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI research group to engage experts with advanced training in physics.
Applications are invited from PhD graduates in Physics who earned their degree from a top 50 pure physics program in the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada. This project focuses on improving AI reasoning capabilities through rigorous problem-solving, theorem-based evaluation, and graduate-level scientific reasoning.
As a contributor, you will apply your expertise to assess, validate, and improve complex physics and mathematical reasoning generated by AI models.
Key Responsibilities
Solve Advanced Physics Problems
- Solve challenging graduate-level physics problems across multiple subfields.
- Apply rigorous analytical and mathematical reasoning to complex scenarios.
Review AI-Generated Solutions
Evaluate AI-generated:
- Proofs
- Derivations
- Calculations
- Problem solutions
Assess outputs for:
- Correctness
- Logical rigor
- Mathematical accuracy
- Clarity
Identify Reasoning Errors
- Detect:
- Logical gaps
- Unsupported assumptions
- Inconsistencies
- Incorrect derivations
- Invalid conclusions
Apply Scientific Reasoning
Reference relevant:
- Physical principles
- Mathematical theorems
- Scientific laws
- Established methodologies
Clearly explain the reasoning behind evaluations and corrections.
Ideal Qualifications
PhD in Physics from a top 50 pure physics program in:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Canada
Degree must be in Physics, not:
- Applied Physics
- Engineering
- Other closely related applied disciplines
Strong graduate-level problem-solving skills across advanced physics topics
Ability to clearly explain reasoning and identify weaknesses in written solutions
Ideally active in:
- Academic research
- Scientific research
- Higher education
Availability
- Approximately 15 hours per week
- Able to complete assigned work within a single sitting when tasks are available
- Able to submit work within 24 hours of receiving assignments
- Available to begin immediately
Work Expectations
- Project-based work delivered in batches
- Task availability may vary over time
- Contributors should be comfortable with fluctuating workloads
