About the Role

Turing is seeking a Biology Specialist (Biological Reasoning & Discovery Engineer) to help evaluate and improve the scientific reasoning capabilities of advanced AI systems.

In this role, you will create biology-focused reasoning datasets that challenge Large Language Models (LLMs) to analyze scientific data, identify biological patterns, infer mechanisms, estimate parameters, and predict outcomes in living systems.

The position combines biological expertise, scientific reasoning, data interpretation, and evaluation design to help build more capable AI systems for scientific applications.

Key Responsibilities

Design Biology Reasoning Tasks

  • Create biology-centered reasoning scenarios using experimental datasets, observational studies, and simulated biological systems
  • Develop tasks requiring pattern recognition, hypothesis generation, parameter estimation, and predictive reasoning

Build Scientific Evaluation Problems

  • Create evaluation challenges across Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cellular Processes, Physiology, Ecology, and Population Dynamics
  • Design biological consistency and scientific reasoning checks

Develop Ground Truth Solutions

  • Create deterministic answers and reference solutions
  • Write detailed scientific explanations
  • Build comprehensive scoring rubrics for model evaluation

Support AI Research

  • Collaborate with reviewers and AI engineers
  • Ensure datasets are scientifically accurate, logically consistent, reproducible, and well documented

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in Biology, Life Sciences Research, Bioinformatics, Scientific Analysis, or related analytical disciplines
  • Strong understanding of biological systems, scientific methodology, experimental design, and quantitative analysis
  • Expertise in one or more of: Genetics, Molecular Biology, Ecology, Physiology, Biological Modeling, Data Interpretation
  • Strong scientific writing and documentation skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and logical reasoning

Work Expectations

  • Minimum overlap of 4 hours with PST time zone
  • Fully remote work environment
