About the Role
Mercor is hiring Cybersecurity Software Engineers to help improve the safety and reliability of advanced AI systems.
In this role, you will apply your cybersecurity and software engineering expertise to evaluate, annotate, and strengthen how AI models handle specialized security topics. No prior experience in AI or machine learning is required — training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Write expert-level prompts across specialized cybersecurity domains
- Review AI outputs for technical accuracy, security correctness, reasoning quality, and appropriate handling of sensitive content
- Identify technical mistakes, security risks, and unsafe recommendations
- Assess content involving application security, network security, cloud security, vulnerability management, and secure software development
- Exercise sound judgment regarding dual-use cybersecurity information
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field; OR 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts and modern software systems
- Strong technical writing and communication skills in English
- Understanding of responsible handling of sensitive security information
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in Offensive Security, Penetration Testing, Vulnerability Research, Security Engineering, Application Security, or Threat Modeling
- Experience reviewing technical content, red-teaming systems, or security assessments
Project Details
- 15-25 hours/week, flexible up to 40 hours/week
- Fully remote, flexible schedule
