Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research organization to support AI-driven drug discovery workflows by verifying protein target assignments in major bioactivity databases such as ChEMBL and BindingDB.
This role involves reviewing scientific literature, validating UniProt target mappings, and applying biological research expertise to improve the accuracy of large-scale biochemical datasets used in AI systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Review:
- Scientific papers
- Patents
- Bioactivity records
to validate protein target assignments.
Verify target mappings against:
- UniProt records
- ChEMBL data
- BindingDB entries
Identify and classify:
- Target assignment errors
- Incorrect protein mappings
- Data inconsistencies
Recommend corrected UniProt accessions when assignments are inaccurate
Write concise, evidence-based research notes explaining validation decisions
Apply scientific judgment to support AI drug discovery and biological data quality workflows
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following:
- BA/BS with 5+ years of relevant experience
- MS with 2+ years of relevant experience
- PhD with industry or drug discovery research experience
Relevant backgrounds include:
- Pharmacology
- Biochemistry
- Molecular Biology
- Chemical Biology
Experience must include work at:
- Biotech companies
- Pharmaceutical companies
- CROs
Required technical experience:
Bench-active research experience
Binding or functional assay workflows involving:
- SPR
- TR-FRET
- Radioligand binding
- Kinase assays
- GPCR assays
- IC50/Ki/KD analysis
Familiarity with:
- UniProt
- SAR support
- HTS workflows
- Target validation
- Biochemical profiling
- IND-enabling studies
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with:
- ChEMBL
- BindingDB
- PubChem
Background in:
- Selectivity profiling
- Counterscreening
- Pharmacological mechanism analysis
Understanding of:
- Agonists vs antagonists
- Activators vs inhibitors
Work Structure
Fully remote contractor role
