Structural/Civil Engineer — Visual Knowledge Work

Mercor is seeking licensed structural and civil engineers to help train AI systems on technical drawing interpretation and construction document analysis.

This role focuses on evaluating AI performance across:

• Blueprint interpretation
• Structural calculations
• Quantity takeoffs
• Engineering specifications
• Construction documentation workflows

Contributors will apply real-world engineering expertise to ensure AI-generated outputs meet the accuracy and precision standards expected in professional engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate AI-generated outputs related to:

  • Construction drawings
  • Structural calculations
  • Quantity takeoffs
  • Technical engineering specifications

• Assess engineering-related AI systems for:

  • Accuracy
  • Precision
  • Technical correctness
  • Compliance with engineering expectations

• Interpret and review:

  • Blueprints
  • Structural plans
  • Construction documentation
  • Engineering reports

• Apply expertise in:

  • Civil engineering
  • Structural engineering
  • Construction workflows
  • Technical review processes

to improve AI evaluation and reasoning systems.

• Identify errors, omissions, or inconsistencies in AI-generated engineering outputs
• Provide structured technical feedback to improve AI systems handling engineering and construction tasks
• Collaborate remotely with AI research and evaluation teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)

• Professional experience in:

  • Structural engineering
  • Civil engineering
  • Construction documentation
  • Engineering analysis

• Hands-on experience with:

  • Blueprint interpretation
  • Quantity takeoffs
  • Technical specification review
  • Structural calculations

• Strong understanding of:

  • Engineering standards
  • Construction workflows
  • Technical drawing systems
  • Engineering documentation

• Ability to evaluate whether AI-generated engineering outputs are:

  • Accurate
  • Safe
  • Professionally acceptable

• Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail

• Strong written communication and technical review abilities

• Ability to work independently in remote environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with:

  • Construction management workflows

• Background reviewing:
