About the Role
Solace’s physicians perform a critical function, performing initial assessments, establishing relationships with our patients and acting as the entry point for Solace’s advocate services, and collaborating with the advocate team to ensure patients’ health and wellness goals are met.
We’re looking for a VP, Clinical Services and Executive Medical Director to lead and scale an expanding physician group at a rapidly growing company. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, this role serves as the principal operational physician executive responsible for the day-to-day clinical leadership of a telehealth physician workforce. This role will own performance management of the physician group, ensure an exemplary patient experience is provided and high quality and efficient clinical care is performed, and build the systems, governance structures, and team capabilities required to sustain those standards as the company grows. It is simultaneously a physician leadership role, a general management role, and a strategic partner role requiring fluency in clinical standards, organizational design, data-driven quality improvement, and cross-functional executive collaboration. This role will partner closely with other areas of the company including Product, Data, Marketing, Operations, and Clinical Recruiting.
This is a high visibility role that will lead Solace’s physicians through an unprecedented phase of growth.
What You'll Do
Clinical leadership and medical director oversight
- Serve as the direct supervisor to a growing team of medical directors and associate medical directors
- Set performance expectations and develop a medical director accountability framework
- Build and mentor the associate medical director pipeline; own physician leadership development as an organizational capability
Clinical quality, safety, and outcomes
- Working closely with the Medical Director for Clinical Quality, set clinical quality strategy, define priority measures, benchmarks, and improvement targets
- Champion a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the physician workforce
- Partner with the Medical Director for Clinical Quality on developing an accreditation readiness program
Clinical operations and workforce management
- Ensure service delivery, capacity, and utilization align with clinical standards
- Set and enforce clinical policies governing scope of practice, clinical protocols, documentation standards, and telehealth-specific guidelines
- Oversee physician onboarding from a clinical readiness standpoint; ensure new physicians receive orientation, training, and mentorship that allows them to hit the ground running
- Monitor physician performance data (productivity, quality metrics, patient satisfaction, documentation compliance) at the cohort and individual level
- Develop action plans to address areas of underperformance
Strategic planning and organizational growth
- Working with the CMO, co-develop clinical strategy for new service lines
- Own the clinical operations plan: define goals, resource requirements, and success metrics
- Develop a plan for a leadership structure that supports rapid growth and identify key hires that will be necessary to bring Solace’s vision to the next level
Clinical governance and policy
- Build and maintain the clinical policy library in partnership with Legal, Compliance, and Medical Directors
- Serve as the clinical authority for escalations from different physicians and the advocate service
Physician engagement, culture, and wellbeing
- Own the physician experience as an organizational priority; monitor engagement data and develop interventions to improve satisfaction, reduce burnout, and improve retention
- Establish regular communication channels between physician leadership and the broader physician workforce
- Partner with People/HR on physician workforce strategy, including retention and succession planning
- Act as a model for the clinical values and professional standards we want upheld
What You Bring to the Table
- An active, unrestricted medical license
- Board certification in internal medicine or family medicine
- Minimum 5 years of direct patient care
- Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience including direct management of other physicians or medical directors, including building that layered team with eventual scaled, layered leadership of >1k clinicians
- Familiarity with multi-state medical licensing and demonstrated knowledge of credentialing standards (NCQA, JC, etc.)
- Experience working in a virtual care setting
- Demonstrated experience overseeing clinical quality, peer review, or patient safety programs at an organizational level
- Familiarity with value-based care, payor contracting, and how credentialing intersects with network adequacy requirements
- Strong leadership and communication skills; proven ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and work cross-functionally
- Comfort operating in a high-growth, tech-forward health care environment
- Prior startup experience is a plus; prior experience working at a tech-forward clinical startup is a massive plus; comfort working autonomously is a necessity
