Job description

C++ Engineer — High Performance Computing (HPC) for AI

About the Role

What if your expertise in high-performance C++ could directly shape the infrastructure powering next-generation AI? We're looking for a Senior C++ Engineer to build and optimize the systems that leading AI labs depend on — from data pipelines and annotation tooling to evaluation infrastructure that influences how frontier models are trained and benchmarked.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role for a seasoned systems engineer who wants meaningful, high-impact work at the cutting edge of AI development.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 20–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and optimize high-performance C++ systems supporting large-scale AI data pipelines and evaluation workflows
  • Develop full-stack tooling and backend services for data annotation, validation, and quality control at scale
  • Improve reliability, throughput, and safety across existing production C++ codebases
  • Identify performance bottlenecks, edge cases, and systemic issues — then implement scalable, elegant fixes
  • Collaborate with data, research, and engineering teams to accelerate model training and evaluation cycles
  • Participate in synchronous design reviews to iterate on system architecture and implementation decisions

Who You Are

  • Native or fluent English speaker with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Full-stack developer with a deep systems programming background
  • 5+ years of professional experience writing production-grade C++ (C++17 or C++20 preferred)
  • Deep understanding of computer architecture, SIMD intrinsics, and cache coherency for compute-heavy workloads
  • Expertise in lock-free programming and maximizing parallelism using threading libraries
  • Able to commit 20–40 hours per week consistently

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality pipelines, or evaluation systems
  • Familiarity with AI/ML workflows, model training, or benchmarking infrastructure
  • Experience building distributed systems or developer tooling

Why Join Us

  • Work directly on production systems used by leading AI research labs — your code ships and it matters
  • Fully remote and async-friendly — work from wherever you do your best thinking
  • Flexible hours with meaningful, technically challenging work
  • Collaborate with world-class engineers and researchers on high-impact AI projects
  • Potential for ongoing engagement and expanded scope as projects scale
