Job description
Mercor is seeking board-certified psychiatrists to contribute to a project with one of the world's leading AI laboratories.
This role focuses on evaluating how large language models reason through advanced psychiatric cases. Contributors will design expert-level diagnostic and clinical reasoning challenges, identify model weaknesses, and provide authoritative gold-standard answers.
Mercor welcomes psychiatrists from all practice settings, with particular interest in candidates with subspecialty expertise.
Responsibilities
Design challenging psychiatric diagnostic and clinical reasoning cases
Develop gold-standard answers supported by clear clinical reasoning
Create scenarios involving:
- Complex psychiatric presentations
- Diagnostic ambiguity
- Risk assessment
- Differential diagnosis
- Edge cases
Evaluate model reasoning and identify failure modes
Provide expert feedback on psychiatric reasoning quality
Collaborate directly with AI researchers and research teams
Help improve the clinical reasoning capabilities of advanced AI systems
Required Qualifications
Medical Training
Medical degree:
- MD
- DO
- International equivalent
Completed psychiatry residency through:
- ACGME
- AOA
- National equivalent
Board Certification
Active board certification in psychiatry through one of the following:
- ABPN
- FRCPC
- MRCPsych
- FRANZCP
- Recognized national equivalent
Board-eligible candidates do not qualify.
Licensure
- Active unrestricted medical license
- No suspension, revocation, or ongoing disciplinary actions
Clinical Experience
- Minimum 3 years of independent psychiatric practice after residency
- Must be currently practicing or have practiced within the past 2 years
- Training years do not count toward experience requirements
Practice Setting
Experience in an accredited or government-licensed setting such as:
- Hospitals
- Academic medical centers
- Community clinics
- Private practices
- Telehealth organizations
Geographic Requirements
Candidates must be based in:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Europe
- Australia
U.S.-based psychiatrists are preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Clinical Activity
- 10+ hours per week of direct patient care
- Current clinical practice
Psychiatry Subspecialties
Particular interest in:
- Addiction Psychiatry
- Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
- Forensic Psychiatry
- Geriatric Psychiatry
- Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
Subspecialty expertise should be demonstrated through:
- Fellowship training
- Board certification
- Two or more years of focused practice
Additional Preferred Experience
- OSCE development or examiner experience
- Faculty appointments in psychiatry departments (current or within the last 2 years)

- Complete a 20–30 minute interview
- Discussion focuses on:
- Clinical background
- Psychiatry experience
- Subspecialty expertise
Contract & Payment Terms
- Independent contractor engagement
- Fully remote work
- Flexible schedule
- Weekly payments through Stripe or Wise
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on business needs and performance
