Earth Sciences / Geology Quality Assurance Lead (QAL)

Job Summary

As an Earth Sciences / Geology Quality Assurance Lead (QAL), you will oversee quality, consistency, and contributor performance across geology and earth science AI training projects.

You will review AI-generated earth science and geology content, scientific explanations, geologic interpretations, environmental analyses, maps, datasets, and trainer/QA submissions to ensure outputs are scientifically accurate, contextually grounded, and aligned with project standards.

Your work will directly contribute to improving advanced AI systems by ensuring geology and earth science training data is rigorous, well-documented, and based on accepted scientific principles.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Monitoring

• Review geology and earth science tasks and QA outputs
• Identify recurring quality issues, provide detailed written feedback, and escalate critical quality concerns

Scientific Review

• Review and evaluate geology explanations, earth science summaries, geologic process descriptions, mineral and rock analyses, climate system explanations, natural hazard assessments, environmental interpretations, geospatial and map-based analyses, and step-by-step scientific reasoning
• Assess work for scientific accuracy, geologic reasoning, terminology accuracy, spatial and temporal context, data interpretation, unit consistency, clarity, instruction adherence, and rubric compliance

Trainer & QA Communication

• Communicate guidelines, workflow changes, quality standards, earth science review expectations, and evaluation criteria

Contributor Support

• Answer questions involving geologic timescales, rock and mineral identification, plate tectonics, earth systems, natural hazards, climate systems, spatial reasoning, environmental interpretation, and rubric application

Activation Management

• Follow up with inactive contributors, track engagement and participation, escalate availability concerns when needed

Documentation & Onboarding

• Create and maintain style guides, documentation, FAQs, quality notes, examples, calibration tasks, and onboarding resources
• Conduct onboarding and training sessions for contributors

Risk & Scientific Integrity Review

• Identify and flag incorrect geologic processes, wrong geologic timescales, unsupported environmental claims, misleading causal relationships, invalid map interpretations, flawed data analysis, geologically impossible claims, overconfident conclusions, and poorly contextualized explanations

Process Improvement

• Improve QA workflows and identify recurring quality gaps
• Develop scalable geology and earth science review processes

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, or equivalent background in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geoscience, Environmental Science, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Hydrology, Paleontology, Oceanography, or related scientific disciplines
• Strong English communication skills
• Minimum 3 years of experience in geology research, earth science research, fieldwork, teaching, environmental consulting, geospatial analysis, academic review, or science communication
• Strong understanding of Plate Tectonics, Rock Cycle, Mineralogy, Stratigraphy, Geologic Time, Structural Geology, Geomorphology, Natural Hazards, Climate Systems, Hydrology, and Earth System Processes
• Ability to identify incorrect geologic reasoning, invalid timescales, unsupported environmental claims, data interpretation errors, and misleading scientific explanations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with GIS, Remote Sensing, Geologic Mapping, Core and Log Interpretation, Geochemical Analysis, Climate Datasets, Python, R, and Scientific Visualization
• Experience with AI Training, Data Annotation, LLM Evaluation, Scientific QA, Academic Review, and Rubric-Based Evaluation
