Remote QA leadership opportunity for experienced mathematics professionals to oversee AI training quality, review mathematical reasoning and proofs, evaluate calculations and derivations, identify logical errors, and support contributors across mathematics AI projects.
Mathematics Researcher (Part-time)
Job description
About the Role
Cincinnatus LLC — in partnership with Mercor — is recruiting accomplished research mathematicians to contribute to the development of next-generation AI systems capable of advanced mathematical and scientific reasoning.
Contributors will work with leading AI research laboratories to create, review, and evaluate highly sophisticated mathematical tasks at the level of active research mathematics. This is a remote, part-time W-2 position requiring 8–20 hours per week. Researchers will help train and evaluate frontier AI models across a wide range of pure and applied mathematics disciplines.
Pay: $90–$150/hr (based on research seniority and credentials)
Key Responsibilities
Mathematical Problem Authoring
- Create challenging research-level mathematics problems for AI training and evaluation
- Design tasks spanning advanced mathematical domains
- Develop problems that test deep reasoning rather than rote computation
- Produce rigorous solutions and evaluation criteria
Model Evaluation
- Review AI-generated mathematical solutions
- Assess proof correctness, rigor, and completeness
- Evaluate mathematical reasoning and logical validity
- Identify subtle mathematical errors and invalid arguments
Proof Verification
- Analyze proof construction and formal reasoning
- Detect unsupported assumptions and missing justifications
- Verify theorem applications and logical deductions
- Review formalization quality and mathematical precision
Failure Analysis
- Identify weaknesses in current AI mathematical reasoning
- Document common model failure patterns
- Highlight incorrect but plausible-looking proofs
- Surface reasoning gaps that expert mathematicians would recognize
