The Fintech team is the engine behind Hopper's most innovative and high-margin products, such as Cancel for Any Reason and Disruption Assistance. We are responsible for designing, building, and scaling the backend systems that power these proprietary fintech offerings, integrating them with some of the world's largest travel companies (airlines, banks, hotels) through our B2B platform, HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions).
This role is at the center of Hopper's B2B strategy. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will operate at the intersection of technical architecture and partner deployment. You will be responsible for tailoring, scaling, and deploying our highly available, globally-scaled systems directly into our partners' platforms, providing peace of mind to millions of travelers and driving significant revenue for the company.
We're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to join us in building and deploying the future of travel fintech for our HTS APAC and Enterprise partners.
What would your day-to-day look like
- Partner-Facing Engineering: Collaborate closely with our B2B partners' technical teams to understand their requirements, design integration architectures, and deploy HTS products seamlessly into their ecosystems.
- AI-Accelerated Development: Utilize AI coding assistants and agentic workflows to rapidly iterate on features using Scala and React (no prior experience in our specific stack required).
- Architecture & Deployment: Decide how to best adapt and build core systems within the context of our microservices architecture to meet specific partner needs without compromising core product scalability.
- Rapid Impact: Ship your first code in days, balancing rapid, partner-facing deployments with long-term code maintainability.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the technical bridge between Hopper’s internal Product, Data Science, and Core Engineering teams and our external partners.
- Drive B2B Growth: Execute on massive integration opportunities, directly helping Hopper rise to the top of the global travel industry.

- "Vibe Coder" Mindset: Proficiency with AI coding tools. Knows how to prompt, steer, and validate AI-generated code to ship 10x faster than a traditional developer.
- Client-Facing Technical Acumen: Proven experience working directly with external clients, partners, or enterprise vendors to scope and deliver technical solutions.
- Strong Architectural Guardrails: Deep conceptual understanding of distributed systems, security, and maintainability to ensure the AI-generated solutions are robust and production-grade.
- Thriving in Ambiguity: The ability to handle the uncertainty, legacy systems, and quickly evolving goals typical of high-stakes partner deployments without breaking a sweat.
- Cloud & Stack Agility: Prior cloud experience. Confident jumping into Scala, React, or any stack the partner throws, using AI to bridge the syntax gap.
- Domain Expertise: Prior airline/travel industry or eCommerce experience is highly valued.

"This position is offered as an Independent Contractor role (Gyeyakjik / Freelancer) based in South Korea, supporting the Hopper Cloud / HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions) business unit. The successful candidate will engage with Hopper as an independent service provider and will not be provided with an employment contract under the South Korean Labor Standards Act (LSA). As an independent entity, the contractor is solely responsible for:
- Tax & Social Insurance: Reporting and paying all applicable local taxes (including the 3.3% withholding tax for freelancers if applicable) and managing their own contributions to the 'Four Major Insurances' (National Pension, Health, Employment, and Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance).
- Compliance: Ensuring they have the legal right to work as a freelancer in Korea (e.g., F-series visa holders or business license holders) and maintaining their own equipment and workspace.
- Benefits: This engagement is a commercial service agreement and does not carry eligibility for statutory benefits such as severance pay (Toegyeok-geum), paid annual leave, or overtime protections mandated for employees.
