AI Trainer - Mechanical Engineers About Prolific Prolific is not just another player in the AI space – we are building the biggest pool of quality human data in the world.
Environmental Engineering - AI Data Trainer
Job description
Environmental Engineering – AI Data Trainer
About the Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need environmental engineers who know their stuff. Your expertise in water treatment, air quality, remediation, and environmental compliance will directly shape how the next generation of AI systems reasons through complex, real-world engineering problems.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your graduate-level knowledge in a flexible, remote freelance role — while working at the frontier of AI development.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Engineering Problems — Create complex, domain-specific challenges across contaminant transport, wastewater process design, hydrology, air quality modeling, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Develop rigorous, step-by-step technical responses — including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and pollutant dispersion simulations — that serve as benchmark answers for AI training
- Audit AI-Generated Outputs — Evaluate AI-produced remediation plans, environmental impact statements, and engineering calculations for technical accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance (EPA, ISO 14001, and others)
- Sharpen AI Reasoning — Identify flaws in model logic — such as incorrect stoichiometry in biological treatment processes or missed secondary environmental impacts — and provide structured, actionable feedback to improve AI "thinking"
- Work Independently — Complete assignments asynchronously on your own schedule with no micromanagement
Who You Are
- Currently pursuing or have completed a Master's or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (with an environmental focus), or a closely related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in one or more of: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediation
- Able to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly and precisely in written form
- High attention to detail — especially around unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory logic
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently on technical tasks
- No prior AI experience required
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, data quality evaluation, or technical review workflows
- Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, EPA tools)
- Background in EHS compliance, environmental impact assessment, or sustainability consulting
Why Join Us
- Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs and AI teams
- Fully remote and flexible — work when and where you choose
- Freelance autonomy: set your own pace, own your schedule
- Gain firsthand exposure to how advanced large language models (LLMs) are built and trained
- Collaborate with a global community of domain experts contributing to meaningful AI work
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
