Role Overview

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to engage experienced Cybersecurity Experts for a short-term, high-impact project.

This role focuses on analyzing and reviewing content for security vulnerabilities, with an emphasis on pattern recognition and classification in an AI context. You will apply expertise in systems programming and cybersecurity to improve how AI models detect and reason about potential threats.

The engagement begins with a work trial and may extend into an approximately 2-month project based on performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Work asynchronously with a team of domain experts in cybersecurity and programming.
• Craft, solve, and review challenging problems with real-world security applications.
• Analyze content to identify and classify potential security vulnerabilities.
• Apply knowledge of attack vectors and security frameworks to evaluate AI outputs.
• Contribute to improving AI model reasoning around security threats and risks.

Ideal Qualifications

• 2+ years of programming experience, preferably with low-level languages such as C, C++, or Java.
• Familiarity with vulnerability classification frameworks (e.g., OWASP, CVE).
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, including web security and common attack vectors.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong pattern recognition skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication in English.
• Must be based in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, or New Zealand.
• Ability to pass an enhanced background check.

Timeline

• Work trial expected to begin mid-April.
• Opportunity to extend into a ~2-month engagement based on performance.
• Exact dates will be communicated closer to the start.

Interview Process

• Complete a short interview and questionnaire to assess expertise.
• Selected candidates will receive paid onboarding (up to 1 hour), including screening and training materials.

Contract and Payment Terms

• Engagement Type: Independent contractor.
• Fully remote with flexible working hours.
• Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on performance and project needs.
• Payments are made weekly via Stripe or Wise.
• No access to confidential or proprietary employer data is required.
• Note: H1-B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported.
