Multilingual Religion and Philosophy Expert

1. Role Overview

Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab on a large-scale AI training initiative focused on improving philosophical reasoning, theological analysis, and complex conceptual interpretation in advanced language models. We’re seeking experienced Religion and Philosophy experts to contribute by creating and evaluating religion- and philosophy-related prompts and responses.

This is a multilingual opportunity. We are specifically seeking experts who are fluent and academically or professionally active in one or more of the following languages:

Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi.

Importantly, we are not looking for translation ability alone. Candidates must have formal academic training or professional experience engaging with religious or philosophical traditions within their linguistic and cultural context — including familiarity with primary texts, interpretive traditions, scholarly debates, and culturally specific frameworks of thought.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Author realistic prompts spanning metaphysics, ethics, epistemology, political philosophy, comparative religion, theology, scriptural interpretation, and history of ideas
• Review and revise AI-generated responses for conceptual rigor, interpretive nuance, historical accuracy, and cultural authenticity
• Write high-quality human-authored “gold” responses for complex or abstract philosophical and theological questions
• Create controlled prompt variations that test subtle differences in doctrinal interpretation, philosophical assumptions, historical context, or comparative frameworks
• Evaluate outputs across different tones (academic, analytical, explanatory) and instruction constraints
• Identify model failure cases involving conceptual confusion, misinterpretation of doctrines, oversimplification of traditions, or culturally inconsistent framing

3. Ideal Qualifications

• 2+ years of academic study or professional experience in Philosophy, Religious Studies, Theology, or a closely related field
• Degree in Philosophy, Religious Studies, Theology, or equivalent academic training preferred
• Active engagement with philosophical or religious scholarship in at least one of the following languages: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi
• Strong familiarity with major philosophical traditions or religious texts within your linguistic and cultural context
• Ability to articulate complex conceptual arguments clearly and precisely in the target language
• Strong analytical skills and thoughtful editorial judgment

Contract and Payment Terms

• You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
• This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
• Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
