Multilingual Mathematics Expert

1. Role Overview

Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab on a large-scale AI training initiative focused on improving mathematical reasoning, problem-solving accuracy, and formal analytical capabilities in advanced language models. We’re seeking experienced Mathematics experts to contribute by creating and evaluating mathematics-related prompts and responses.

This is a multilingual opportunity. We are specifically seeking experts who are fluent and academically active in one or more of the following languages:

Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi.

Importantly, we are not looking for translation ability alone. Candidates must have substantial academic training in mathematics within their linguistic and cultural context, including familiarity with mathematical terminology, curriculum standards, notation conventions, and problem-solving approaches used in their language ecosystem.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Author realistic mathematics prompts spanning algebra, calculus, geometry, probability, statistics, discrete mathematics, and higher-level topics as appropriate
• Review and revise AI-generated solutions for logical rigor, computational accuracy, clarity of explanation, and adherence to mathematical standards
• Write high-quality human-authored “gold” solutions for complex, multi-step, or proof-based problems
• Create controlled prompt variations that test subtle differences in constraints, assumptions, notation, or difficulty level
• Evaluate outputs across different explanation styles (formal proof, step-by-step solution, conceptual explanation) and instruction constraints
• Identify model failure cases involving logical gaps, calculation errors, invalid proofs, or misuse of definitions and theorems

3. Ideal Qualifications

• 2+ years of formal academic training in Mathematics (e.g., undergraduate or graduate study in mathematics or a closely related quantitative field)
• Strong performance in advanced mathematics coursework
• Active engagement with mathematics in at least one of the following languages: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi
• Deep familiarity with mathematical terminology, notation, and instructional conventions within your language context
• Ability to clearly and precisely explain mathematical reasoning in the target language
• Strong analytical skills and careful editorial judgment

Contract and Payment Terms

• You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
• This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
• Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
