About the Role
Mercor is seeking Experienced Generalist Writers to support AI model training by producing high-quality, human-written content across a wide range of real-world formats.
In this role, you will craft prompts and responses that help AI systems generate more natural, accurate, and context-aware writing. All submissions must be fully human-written — AI-generated content is strictly prohibited.
What You'll Do
- Write realistic prompts reflecting real-world writing needs across multiple domains
- Produce high-quality responses with strong:
- Tone
- Structure
- Clarity
- Audience awareness
- Adapt writing style depending on context (e.g., Slack message vs. formal report)
- Work across diverse formats including:
Writing Categories
- Communication: Emails, Slack messages, speeches, internal notes
- Essays: Analysis, critiques, structured arguments
- Concepts: Tutorials, explainers, step-by-step guides
- Journalism: Profiles, interviews, news explainers, narratives
- Business: Memos, product specs, performance reviews, strategy docs
- Academic: Research outlines, related work sections
- Product & Marketing: Onboarding flows, help documentation
Requirements
- Professional experience in:
- Writing
- Journalism
- Content marketing
- Communications
- Education or similar fields
- Strong portfolio or published work samples
- Ability to write across multiple tones and formats
- Excellent attention to detail and writing quality
Ideal Candidate
- Highly versatile writer comfortable switching between formal and casual tones
- Strong understanding of structure, clarity, and audience intent
- Able to consistently produce polished, high-quality content
Role Details
- Remote, flexible schedule
- Approx. 20 hours per week
- All work conducted in English
Compensation
- $45 per hour
