Generalist Prompt Writers

About the Role

Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab to hire Generalist Prompt Writers for a data annotation and AI training project.

In this role, you will help improve the performance of advanced AI models by categorizing datasets, applying taxonomies, and producing structured annotations based on detailed project guidelines.

This opportunity allows contributors to work on cutting-edge AI systems while developing experience in prompt engineering, dataset structuring, and AI training workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Synthesize insights from large datasets and information sources
• Annotate and categorize text, images, and structured data
• Apply predefined rubrics, taxonomies, and guidelines
• Identify dataset inconsistencies, ambiguities, or errors
• Produce structured and high-quality outputs
• Contribute to the development and improvement of AI models

Ideal Qualifications

• Strong critical thinking and reasoning skills
• Excellent reading comprehension and written communication
• Ability to structure and summarize large volumes of information
• Experience applying rubrics, taxonomies, or structured guidelines
• Prior experience with data annotation or AI training projects (preferred)
• A college degree is preferred

Project Commitment

• Expected commitment: approximately 20 hours per week
• Fully remote with flexible scheduling
