Multilingual Law Expert

1. Role Overview

Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab on a large-scale AI training initiative focused on improving legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, and structured legal analysis in advanced language models. We’re seeking experienced legal professionals to contribute by creating and evaluating law-related prompts and responses.

This is a multilingual opportunity. We are specifically seeking experts who are fluent and professionally active in one or more of the following languages:

Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi.

Importantly, we are not looking for translation ability alone. Candidates must have real-world legal practice or research experience within their language and jurisdictional context, including familiarity with local statutes, case law, regulatory systems, legal terminology, and professional standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Author realistic legal prompts spanning doctrinal analysis, statutory interpretation, regulatory compliance, contractual reasoning, and applied legal problem-solving
• Review and revise AI-generated responses for legal accuracy, logical rigor, clarity, and adherence to jurisdiction-specific standards
• Write high-quality human-authored “gold” responses for complex or ambiguous legal questions
• Create controlled prompt variations that test subtle differences in facts, jurisdiction, procedural posture, or legal framing
• Evaluate outputs across different tones (formal legal writing, advisory memos, analytical essays) and instruction constraints
• Identify model failure cases involving flawed reasoning, misapplication of precedent, overgeneralization, or jurisdictional inaccuracies

3. Ideal Qualifications

• Law degree (e.g., J.D., LL.B., or equivalent)
• 2+ years of professional work experience practicing law, conducting legal research, or working in a legal, judicial, regulatory, or academic setting
• Active professional familiarity with legal systems in at least one of the following languages: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi
• Strong understanding of local legal frameworks, procedural norms, and drafting standards within your linguistic and cultural context
• Excellent analytical and written communication skills in the target language
• Ability to exercise careful, well-reasoned editorial judgment

Contract and Payment Terms

• You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
• This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
• Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
